Sunny Days on Glen Lake

One really fun thing we did while we were vacationing at Glen Lake was rent a boat that we could tool around in and jump off of. When my dad booked the boat for the week, we were all under the impression that we would just park it at our dock. When we got there, we realized that the water by the dock...and about 30 feet away from the dock was only ankle deep - too shallow to swim, let alone park a giant beast of a boat.

Luckily there was a swim platform out a little ways that we could tie the boat to. The only problem with this method was that we had to swim to the boat whenever we wanted to go for a ride. This also meant that when we came home from a sunset cruise we had to swim back to shore in the cold night air and run inside to dry off by the fire.

So Aaron decided to turn a rickety old canoe that we found under the porch into a water-taxi. We didn't have any paddles, so he used a big stick and guided us thru the water to the boat and back. We started getting brave, loading all the gear as well as three or 4 of us into the canoe at one time.

Family vacations are all about building memories, right?

Sleeping Bear Dunes

The Dune Climb begins...Half-way up (that's Glen Lake in the background)!And we made it all the way to the top where you can see Lake Michigan if you're facing West and Glen Lake if you're facing East. Pretty awesome - of course we had to get the family pics up there. And then we came down. One of my favorite parts of the trip was when mom and dad decided to book it down the hill with us. They were sprinting! I did some cartwheels and collapsed at the bottom. Aaron did like 10 backflips in a row because he is nimble and athletic. We had so much fun on the dune climb!

I heart the Chevy Volt

You may or may not know this about me...but I am a fan of the Chevy Volt. My friend Katie, from Vox knows a lot about the Volt because her hubby Tony pretty much is the biggest Volt fan I've ever met.

When it comes to plugging in, the Volt will be designed to use a common 110–volt household plug [sweetness]. For someone who drives less than 40 miles a day [that's me], Chevy Volt will use zero gasoline and produce zero emissions. For longer trips, Chevy Volt's range-extending power source kicks in to recharge the lithium-ion battery pack as required.

Tony (who reads the Volt blog on a daily basis) told me all about the Volt, and since that day I have been eagerly awaiting the year 2010 when they will be available for me to buy. I have also been interested in the unveiling of the actual design.

This first shot is the concept car - which pretty much looks like a crazy batmobile/old man-type car. I don't like it...I think it's too sticky-outie. I hoped that maybe the actual design might be a little cuter, smaller, softer, not so mean and manly, and today the pictures leaked of what is potentially the actual design (see 2nd image)

The Cabin

This is a packed car. Now add my mom and dad, Aaron, Angela and John and you've got a REALLY packed car!

We stopped on the way for some fresh fruits and veggies from the fresh fruits and veggies stand. Do not rub a fuzzy peach on your face...it may seem soft at first, then it will itch.

Our cabin was so cool! A historic and rustic log cabin with one shower for all of us! It was built in 1936 and was designed by Harry Weese for his parents when he was 18 years old in architecture school! I guess he did good...it's still standing.

Our home for the week had a HUGE fireplace (which we built 14-log fires in). One of my favorite things about it was the gigantic table that we all ate at and played games at. Suprisingly, Aaron and John beat Ryan and I at euchre...about 11 times.

Yep, I'm 28...which is still cool I guess. Kids these days probably don't even say "cool" anymore. Actually, I heard Chris say his new friends at Hope are "Wicked" which I guess means cool.

So, I celebrated my birthday on a boat on Glen Lake with Ryan, my Dad and Mom, my brother Aaron, sister Angela and her hubby John. It was wicked (awesome)! We tried to catch fish in a lake that has no fish...seriously, no fish.

Then, to top it off I got online and discovered that over 45 people had left me "Happy Birthday" wishes on my FACEBOOK account. I was shocked! How wicked (cool) is that?!?! I feel so loved.

We're Home!!

We just got back from Glen Lake and I can't wait to share some "Beeson Family Vacation 2008" pictures with you...but first I need to shower, unpack my suitcase and throw some laundry in the wash.
